Over $220,000 raised for SPCA Centres nationwide.
SPCA Cupcake Day has again been a resounding success for the organisation – and all thanks to cupcakes, lovingly baked, decorated, sold and devoured by people up and down the country.
Over 2000 individuals, businesses, schools and teams registered as Cupcake Cooks, baking up a storm to raise money for animals in need at their local SPCAs. Tens of thousands of cupcakes were baked for the day, with many Cupcake Cooks even going so far as to bake batches of ‘pupcakes’ using a dog-friendly recipe so their canine friends could take part in the fun.
"Once again SPCA Cupcake Day has captured the imagination of New Zealanders from politicians to kindergarteners. Everyone involved has had so much fun – and the animals have benefitted nationwide," says SPCA National Chief Executive Robyn Kippenberger.
The Cupcake Day competitions drew a great amount of interest, with Cupcake Cooks vying for the titles of Most Money Raised, Most Cupcakes Baked, and Most Creative Cupcake. Prizes up for grabs included a new-season garment from fashion designer Ooby Ryn, a two-night stay at a holiday home courtesy of Bachcare Holiday Homes, a baking prize pack from Hansells, baking and decorating goodies from Kiwicakes, a KitchenAid artisan stand mixer, signed CDs from New Zealand singer-songwriter Greg Johnson, and more.
Cupcake Day for the SPCA 2011 would not have been possible without the generous support of its key sponsors, New Zealand Woman"s Weekly, Creme and MORE FM. The SPCA is also grateful for the many organisations that lent their support to the event, and the thousands of Cupcake Cooks who took part.
"I'm sure I speak for all SPCAs and the animals they care for when I thank all who baked, sold and bought cupcakes," says Ms Kippenberger. "We're aiming for even more fun next year."
